Methodology
What a confirmed BUY or SELL signal on Signl actually means, and how confidence is scored on top of it.
Chandelier Exit(22, 3)
The Chandelier Exit is a volatility-based trailing stop, built from a 22-session lookback and a 3× ATR multiplier. It trails price from the highest close in that lookback window, stepping down its stop level only as the trend extends. A buy flip happens when the session price closes back above that trailing stop after having been below it — the scanner's signal for a fresh bullish trend change. SELL signals use the mirrored bearish flip and confirmation rules. Every symbol in a covered NSE universe (F&O, NIFTY 500, NIFTY Midcap 150, and NIFTY Smallcap 250) is checked; only candidates that clear all seven qualification filters below enter the signals list.
The seven qualification filters
A Chandelier flip on its own isn't enough — every signal on Signl has already cleared six directional technical confirmations plus the NSE delivery-participation gate before it appears on the dashboard. The descriptions below use the BUY side; SELL mirrors them.
Filter 1
Close above EMA200
The signal-day close sits above the 200-session exponential moving average — the primary long-term trend filter.
Filter 2
EMA50 rising
The 50-session EMA is trending up, not just above price — confirms the medium-term trend is actually moving, not flat.
Filter 3
Close above prior 20-day high
The close breaks out above the highest close of the preceding 20 sessions — a fresh momentum breakout, not a stale range.
Filter 4
RSI14 between 55 and 75
14-period RSI in a healthy bullish band — strong enough to confirm momentum, capped to avoid chasing an already-overbought move.
Filter 5
Strong close
The close_location on the signal day is at least 0.70 — the close sat in the upper part of that day's trading range, not drifting into the close.
Filter 6
Volume confirmation
Signal-day volume clears the configured minimum ratio against the 20-day average — the move is backed by participation, not a thin print.
Filter 7
Delivery volume at least 40%
NSE deliverable quantity is at least 40% of total traded quantity on the signal date. Missing delivery data fails closed, so the candidate is excluded.
How confidence is scored
Every result already passed all seven filters above — confidence is a simple, transparent bonus score on top of that, not a separate backend signal. It rewards signals that cleared those bars especially comfortably:
- +1RSI14 in the stronger half of its band (62–75)
- +1Close very near the day's high (close location ≥ 0.85)
- +1Signal-day volume at least 2× the 20-day average
3 points → High, 1–2 points → Medium, 0 points → Low.
Exit warning
Separately from the confirmation filters — which are frozen as of the signal bar — the scanner re-grades every live signal's health from the most recent daily bar on each run. A signal is flagged “ready to exit / signal strength lost” when both are true on that latest bar:
- The candle closed against the signal — a down day for a long, an up day for a short.
- The LazyBear Squeeze Momentum histogram printed two consecutive dark / fadingbars — momentum is no longer strengthening in the signal's direction.
It is not sticky: a later bar that closes with the signal, or prints a bright (still-expanding) momentum bar, clears the warning on the next scan. Signl surfaces it as an amber Exit warning badge on the signal cards, table and detail page, and you can filter to just these under Status → Exit warnings only.
Things to know
- BUY and SELL signals. The scanner applies mirrored directional confirmation rules to bullish and bearish Chandelier flips.
- ADX and Squeeze are context, not scanner gates. They inform confidence and optional dashboard filters, but do not decide whether a daily scan candidate enters the signals database. Historical backtests can still enable them as explicit strategy filters.
- Target is computed, not backend data. It's Entry + R × (Entry − StopLoss), always marked "(est.)" — a risk-multiple projection you choose, not a price target from any data source.
- Each signal is a stored result, read from the last time that symbol's flip was confirmed — not necessarily from the same scan pass as any other symbol on the dashboard.
Signl is a research tool, not investment advice. Signals are generated by a rules-based technical scanner (Chandelier Exit) and Target levels are computed estimates based on risk multiples, not guarantees. Trading involves risk of loss — size positions and set stops according to your own risk tolerance.
